Human Development and Family
 
Studies (HDFS) Internship Abroad


 

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

HDFS majors may complete their required internship (HDFS 4920) abroad as long as the internship site is not located in a travel warning country as identified by the U.S. Bureau of Consular Affairs. The internship also must match with the student’s concentration and be approved by the HDFS Internship Director. Regular and reliable internet access at the internship site is required for completion of online course assignments.

ELIGIBILITY

In order to be eligible for the HDFS Internship, students must be an HDFS undergraduate major, they must complete all required course prerequisites for their concentration and they must have a 2.25 GPA. In addition, students must submit all required HDFS application and commitment materials by the established due date for the semester during which they will complete the internship, and they must attend the mandatory internship orientation and preparation meetings. They also must fully complete the registration process with the Auburn University Office of International Programs before traveling to their internship location.

  • Deadline for HDFS commitment materials for Fall semester

Beginning and end dates for the HDFS Internship coincide with the course calendar for classes established by Auburn University for the internship semester.

PROGRAM COSTS

Students are responsible for all tuition costs associated with registering for the 12 credit hour internship course (HDFS 4920), as well as all costs associated with travel abroad.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Students are responsible for arranging and funding all required accommodations for their internship experience abroad.

LOCATION

HDFS Internships can be completed at any global location, expect for in a travel warning country as identified by the U.S. Bureau of Consular Affairs.  See http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/tw/tw_1764.html for exclusions. Regular and reliable internet access at the internship site also is required.

PASSPORT AND VISA REQUIREMENTS

If you do not have a PASSPORT: Please check http://travel.state.gov for the nearest local passport office and forms. Auburn Abroad recommends that you apply for a passport as soon as possible. If you already have a passport: Please check the expiration date. Passports should be valid for at least 6 months following your scheduled time abroad.
