Program Description:

Brazilian Studies and Culture
 

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The program has two main purposes: First, students from Auburn University will gain practical experience in a country which is the fifth most populous country in the world and has one of the world's fastest growing economies. Second, the program will continue the project of partnership between Auburn University and University of Pernambuco / UPE, which started in October 2014.

Participants in this program will be completely immersed in a fascinating culture they know theoretically, for about one week, to get exciting opportunities to explore social factors, cultural environments, and natural beauty unlike anywhere else in the world. 

ELIGIBILITY

There are no prerequisites for this program. All students are welcome to apply for this program.

PROGRAM COSTS

The cost of this program is $2,992. This includes round-trip airfare from Atlanta, GA, lodging, transportation while in Brazil, breakfasts and most dinners, and a variety of classes and activities while in country. This cost does not include the cost of a Brazil Visa (estimated at $160).

Payment and Withdrawal Deadlines:
  • 16 Jan 2018: Program fee installment of $1,000 billed to eBill.
  • 30 Jan 2018: Due date for program fee payment. There will be no refund of this portion after this date.
  • 15 Feb 2018: Program fee installment of $1,992 billed to eBill.
  • 28 Feb 2018: Due date for program fee payment. There will be no refund of this portion after this date.
Students suspended or dismissed from the program for disciplinary or academic reasons after the start of the program are not eligible for any
refund of fees.

COURSE
Students will receive credit for INTL 3930 - Brazilian Studies and Culture (3 credit hours)

ACCOMMODATIONS

Students will stay with the families of Pernambuco University / UPE students. These families will provide daily transportation to campus. The distances vary according to the districts in which the families live. Laundry facilities are available at the homestays.

EXCURSIONS

In the first three days, students will stay in Porto de Galinhas Beach. After that, they will visit downtown Recife, the Ricardo Brennand Institute, sugarcane mills and plantations. A visit to Olinda City and other tourism areas will be included as well.OIP.Brazil.PortoGalinhas

PASSPORT AND VISA REQUIREMENTS

If you do not have a PASSPORT: Please check www.travel.state.gov for the nearest local passport office and forms. Auburn Abroad recommends that you apply for a passport as soon as possible. If you already have a passport: Please check the expiration date. Passports should be valid for at least 6 months following your scheduled time abroad.

VISA REGULATION

  • A visa is required to enter Brazil. Students will work with the faculty director to obtain a Tourist Visa for Brazil.
