Landscape Architecture Galapagos Studio

 

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The "Cities in Natural Protected Areas" studio focuses on the relationship between urban and natural environments in protected areas. The studio meets for one day in Quito, capital of Ecuador and UNESCO cultural heritage site. Students will then spend four weeks in the Archipelago of Galapagos, among the most delicate ecosystem in the world, declared a natural heritage site by UNESCO for its outstanding universal value. Professors and students from Europe, Australia, and the Americas will develop different proposals to understand the role of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Urbanism in relation to the preservation of Protected Natural Areas.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Participants should be able to navigate bus and train transportation, extensive walking, and stairs.

ELIGIBILITY

Students entering the summer prior to their final year of the MLA program are eligible (minimum 3.0 institutional GPA).

Pre-requisite - LAND 5330/6330: Studio III

IMPORTANT DATES

Summer 2018:

  • 18 June 2018: Start date on location
  • 13 July 2018: Program end date

COURSES

While in Ecuador, the students will be participating in a landscape design studio course, led by David Hill.  This course is the equivalent to LAND 7130 Studio IV, LAND 7131 Field Studies, and LAND 7140 Global Urbanism for a total of 9 credit hours.

The students will be placed in apartments, arranged by the Universite San Francisco de Quito.

If you already have a passport: Please check the expiration date. Passports should be valid for at least 6 months following your scheduled time abroad.

  • Non-U.S. Citizens should verify visa requirements
