Global Studies in Education - South Korea

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Global Studies in Education - South Korea is a College of Education outreach/study abroad program sponsored by Korean automotive companies located in East Alabama, Korea Corner, EFLT department, College of Education, and University Outreach at Auburn University. The primary purpose of the program is to increase cultural awareness and sensitivity of local educators. Upon completion of the program, participants are expected to:
1. Demonstrate knowledge of Korean culture and education systems
2. Promote awareness of diversity and global education in their own classroom/school;
3. Present skills and knowledge to teach Korean culture and diversity to students.

Program Activities:

Global Studies Korea DMZ

  • Orientation of Korean education & cultures (Spring semester)
  • Korea visit (Late May- Early June):
    • K-12 School visits
    • University lectures on Korean education systems
    • Guided visits to historically significant sites such as Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) and Kyungbok Palace
    • Cultural activities (e.g., Korean cuisine making, traditional music performance)
    • Educational site visit (e.g., Korea Job World)

PASSPORT AND VISA REQUIREMENTS

Global Studies Korea Students

If you do not have a PASSPORT: Please check http://travel.state.gov for the nearest local passport office and forms. Application for a United States passport should be made at least 120 days in advance of your departure date. Auburn Abroad recommends that you apply for a passport as soon as you know you are participating in the program. If you already have a passport: Please check the expiration date. Passports should be valid for at least 6 months following your scheduled time abroad.
